16w0d: MFM Appt & Told The Boss

We had the first check-up with the MFM on Wednesday at 15w5d. The primary purpose was to measure my cervix. We were also hoping for, but not expecting, a quick check on the babies. Our awesome ultrasound tech said she'd definitely take a look at them as well.

They grew! Both heart rates were 144bpm and while she didn't do a CRL measurement, I guessed using the scale on the side of the u/s pic that they are both about 10cm. She let us watch them bounce around for a while and she captured a few pictures for us to take home. Baby A is vertex and B is breech so their legs were near each other. When one kicked it jostled the other a little. So cute! The tech scheduled our anatomy scan for March 21. She said that it will be with a different tech but she wanted to stop by to see the babies again. I think she had almost as much fun as we did watching these two little cuties.

I also told the boss this week. My manager took a new position at the beginning of the year and in the interim, I'm reporting to the skip-level manager. He lives and works in New York and is new to the company. In other words, I don't know him that well. He was in town this week so I stopped by early one morning to let him know. He really could not have had a better reaction. When I explained that I will have more frequent doctor appointments and may have to work from home at some point he said to do whatever I need to do for these babies and me. To quote, "This is no time for heroics at work. It will all get done and will be here for you when you get back." Phew!

15w0d: OB Check-up #2

We had a standard OB check-up last Monday at 14w3d. After running out of the waiting room because I couldn't stop coughing, I returned to find Chris and the medical assistant waiting for me to go back. I had hoped for a doppler check on the babies to make sure their heart rates were ok, but was thrilled when Dr. B said she prefers to just do a quick ultrasound with twins as it is easier to find their hearts that way - and it also serves as a high level check for things like adequate amniotic fluid.

It was just a quick scan and everything looked great. Saw both hearts, but both were a little sleepy (see previous coughing fit above from which they had finally calmed down) so not a whole lot of movement. We did get to see Baby B move hands up to the face. She wasn't able to get a good pic of both babies together so no new pics today.

I think my cold is finally going away. I felt better today than I have in weeks. With a 3 day weekend ahead of us, I should be able to finally kick this thing.

13w0d & 14w0d: Family Hauler & A Cold

We had no doctor appointments in either week, so no peeks at the babies. However, we like to keep things moving around here.

First, Chris had back-to-back business trips. In between those two trips, we decided that our reliable and much loved Civics just aren't going to cut it with two little ones and all their gear. We had done quite a bit of research and knew exactly what we wanted. I had a supplier discount through work, so we searched the local dealerships' inventories until we found one that had the trim level and color we wanted. Then we showed up and told them which car we were buying and how much we'd be paying with the discount. It still took two hours to fill out all the paperwork, but we drove away with a shiny new GMC Acadia. We love it!! It has nice leather seats for the babies to barf on, Bose speakers to rock out to Rubber Ducky, a 3rd row for visitors, and the gas mileage to match! :-) We still have one of our Civics. 

I also got my first illness - a relentless cold. I have been so lucky to have a huge appetite with little nausea and no vomiting. But this cold came and has stuck around for two weeks and counting. Of course very few medicines are allowed during pregnancy. My doctor told me I could take plain sudafed after the first trimester. After a failed attempt at buying some on a Saturday night (thank you meth dealers, for making it so that I can't purchase cold medicine after 6:00 when all the pharmacists have gone home), I finally found some Sunday afternoon only to have the pharmacist tell me some doctors disagree with taking sudafed at all. Really? I'm miserable, I'll take my chances. 

Fast forward a few more days and the dang thing moved to my chest. I sound terrible and have coughed until my ribs hurt. I don't think the babies like all the moving around, but I think they are still growing!
